Oh Say Can You See

A Day Long Anti-War Performance Ritual

Friday, May 19th
Directed by Eeo Stubblefield

Hosted by VARGA Gallery in Woodstock, NY.

Performance artist Eeo Stubblefield will present a second showing of

Oh Say Can You See on Friday, May 19th

1:00 PM – 6:00 PM outside the VARGA gallery and through out the town of Woodstock

And from

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM in and out of the VARGA gallery, during the closing reception of “Politikai” an exhibition of political art.

Oh Say Can You See is a combination of installation art and performance ritual.

The performance ritual will begin at 1:00 outside VARGA Gallery - the home base of the entire performance which weaves in and out of the town of Woodstock back and forth from VARGA Gallery to Bradley Meadows Mall.

You will find Stubblefield's performance troupe scattered throughout the town.

Black Shrouded women will be washing and hanging prayer flags, images of the Iraqi civilian casualties.

Also you'll find numerous wandering musicians singing anti-war songs, oppression songs, labor songs and songs of peace.

The installation in the gallery will be made up of the front pages of the New York Times since 9/11 alongside prayer flags of Iraq 's civilian casualties .  The installation of the New York Times' front pages sharply contrasts with the images of Iraqi civilian casualties (not released by the media in the US but available online).

Performance artist S.B.Woods will be performing  Bath within the installation piece during the closing.

Sarah Underhill will be singing through out the closing reception as an accompaniment to both the outdoor performance and the indoor installation performance Bath

As in all Stubblefield's previous performances, the stage will not be limited to a traditional art space. Centered around the VARGA Gallery, Stubblefield's performers will move into the village of Woodstock, true to her vision of art infiltrating the ordinary activities of daily life.  Stubblefield has the women performers in black shrouds. She is using the dress for the experience of both performer and viewer; to take a closer look at racism.

During the closing of “Politikai” from 6-9 PM, Stubblefield's performance will move in and out of VARGA Gallery. Like all of Stubblefield's performances, Oh Say Can You See will change up to the eleventh hour, re-shaping as the piece evolves. Updates will be posted on the Varga website at http://www.VARGAgallery.com and special guest artists will be announced .

Stubblefield is still taking both performers and musicians for the Friday performance. If you are interested in participating in any way, please call Eeo @ (845)-679-7943.
